PROJECT RAM is a devised piece of performance inspired from the original script RAM - THE ABDUCTION OF SITA INTO DARKNESS by Yael Fraber. The intial impulse to create this performance was part of the students' Intercultural Theatre Practices module. Students are encouraged to raise issues of interculturality, challenging its relevance in contemporary performance practices and the current cultural landscape. The performance raises questions on the values and relevance of the Ramayana today, seeking a possible new reading that will hopefully resonate with contemporary challenges and themes. Perhaps it is time to create a new Sita - one who does not have to reutrn to the earth but can resolutely claim it? The text that you will hear is an amalgam of desconstructed material from Ram and original texts written by the students, motivated by questions surrounding interculturalism and the context of the present.
